This was our first visit to Flores but we know that it won’t be our last. Flores is an amazing place to visit with spectacular scenery, wildlife, pristine beaches,
many islands and most importantly friendly locals who are very passionate about their island and very happy to share this with all who come to visit.
We only decided 3 weeks prior to have a holiday in Flores so didn’t have much time to organize our trip. We did some research and discovered that Komodo Wanderlust Tours had great reviews but also lots of choice to various packages on offer.
We contacted Efraim the owner of the company and from the moment we first made contact, we know that we’d made the right decision to go ahead and make a booking with his tour service.
Our minds we put at ease with the constant information, emails and professionalism shown by Efraim. He has great English so it was easy to converse but he also had our best interests in mind to make sure that we had the best service and holiday possible. He is very passionate about sharing his love of Flores with us and we were able to request to combine two tours together which really suited our needs.
But The tours on offer are really only a guide and Efraim will do his utmost to assist you with any plans you may have.
Our tour ran very smoothly from beginning to end. We were picked up at Ende airport by our friendly guide Hance and driver Gusti who made our overnight trip to Kelimutu a relaxing, enjoyable experience. We would recommend them highly as they really worked as a team and paid particular attention to make sure that we had all we needed. They both made us feel welcome and we really enjoyed their company in a relaxed and friendly way, especially our time spent in conversation and their knowledge of Flores plus their personal touch to make sure we got to meet some of the local people.
We then flew to Labuan Bajo where we spent 2 nights in a hotel and 1 night on the boat. Again we were meet at the airport with a friendly welcome from our guide Save who took us to Sylvia Hill to see the view and then to Paradise Bar to see the amazing sunset. We had a fresh seafood dinner at the local restaurant. Delicious but a little too spicy for us so make sure you request less spice if it doesn’t suit your taste buds.
The next morning we were picked up and escorted to our boat which was our home for the next 2 days. Wow, we were so surprised and impressed with our accommodation. We felt like the king and Queen of Flores on board this boat. The food was varied and delicious. Our compliments to the young chef on board. We visited many great snorkelling spots, were fortunate enough to see 14 komodo dragons on Rinca Island and had a pleasant, informative walk with a knowledgeable ranger whilst there. The white sandy beaches and many fish and coral were a highlight. Also the most spectacular sunset and flight of bat’s was a sight to behold on Kalung Island. That plus the full moon shinning on the water with a perfect temperature on deck really topped it off.
We spent our last night back in a comfortable hotel with a pool and beach at our doorstep before we were picked up the next morning by Efraim the owner of the company and driven to Mirror Cave and then the local government school to meet some of the students who are studying to become either a tourist guide or eventually work within the tourist industry. This school is amazing as are the dedicated staff and obviously relaxed students who have great respect and admiration for the passionate efforts that the staff have to inspire them to become and do the best they can with their life. We were then taken to the airport and given a heartfelt farewell by Efraim which certainly finished off our short stay nicely.
We would highly recommend his sincere and genuine service to anyone who plans to visit the unspoilt and beautiful island of Flores. We’re truly sure that you will not be disappointed. Again thanks to you all for making happy memories for us.
